Fabrics Best Suited to Custom Dyeing

Our custom dye service is best suited to natural and silk-based fabrics, which accept colour with depth and nuance. Silk, silk blends, cotton, linen, and viscose typically achieve the most beautiful and predictable results. Delicate fabrics such as lace, chiffon, organza, and tulle can often be dyed successfully, though variation in tone is part of their character and charm.

Synthetic fibres (such as polyester or acetate) do not easily absorb dye and so the dye process is much more labour intensive using much more dye and resource’s. This is reflected in the investment price. Each garment is individually assessed to determine its compatibility and the likely outcome before any work is undertaken.

All dye commissions begin with a private consultation. During this stage, we assess the garment’s fabric, construction, and current colour, and discuss your desired shade and overall vision. Test samples may be created where appropriate to ensure the final colour aligns with your expectations.
